History of Fishing

It is known that people have been fishing with different methods since ancient times. At that time, fish was given importance as a valuable food item. In this article, we will give information about the history of fishing.

Fishing with a Rod

For thousands of years, hunting equipment was made from bone or pieces of wood, similar to today's fishing hooks. It has been observed that some of the needles used have beads similar to the needles we use today to prevent the fish from coming back out. The first fishermen were trying to catch fish, just like we do now, with the ropes they made from animal hair and plants on these needles.

Fishing with a Cage

The method of fishing in the oceans and seas with a cage made using solid wire and iron skeleton was also used by fishermen in ancient times. Although they were not as strong and durable as they are today, fishing was still possible by making fish cages with reeds and tree branches. Today, fishing continues with this primitive method in many African countries. African fishermen fish with these cages in untouched and fertile rivers and lakes.

Pool Fishing

Aquaculture, which has recently become widespread in our country, was actually practiced regularly by many civilizations. Carp and fresh water in ponds in some regions of BC mullet is grown.

It is known that fish farming in this pond, which was also seen during the Roman Empire, continued until the end of the Middle Ages. In fact, the Chinese were breeding mullet by filling salt water into the pools they built around 3000 BC.
