Zeus Faber (John Dory) is the most famous fish species of the Zeidae (Dories) family. The word Faber means blacksmith. It is said that this fish got this name because the bones in its head resemble blacksmith tools such as anvil and hammer.


Its body is flat and high, covered with small thick scales, and its mouth is wide. The bodies of young ones are transparent, their pectoral fins are long and extend to the head of the second anal fin. It has a round black spot on both sides of its body. There are an average of 14 spines on the fin and back of the Zeus Faber (John Dory). Its color varies in different tones, its head and back are light brown, its back and sides are yellowish, and its belly is white. Its average size is 40 cm and its weight is around 300-500 grams. It is recorded that it can reach a maximum height of 90 cm and a weight of 8 kg.


Zeus Faber (John Dory) is a carnivorous fish that survives by hunting smaller creatures and fish, as well as cephalopods and shrimp. Their lifespan is at most 12 years.
