What is Tuna? Where it lives? How to Hunt?

Tuna is a large and delicious fish species from the mackerel family (Scombridae). The tuna species consist of Thunnus, Euthynnus and Katsuwonus . It is a radial bright-finned fish species that can reach 4.3 meters in length and 800 kilograms in weight. Tuna fish, which is a carnivorous fish, can reach great speeds such as 70 to 75 km per hour depending on their body structure. Sardine, anchovy, shad, mackerel, bonito, bluefish. Their bodies are oval in shape, with a large anterior part and tapering towards the back. The upper part of the body is dark blue or black, the sides are silvery-white, the edge of the caudal fin is white. There are two pieces of meat hanging between the ventral fin. These pieces of meat are like "Is tuna a mammal?" tuna is a fish, not a mammal. The tuna reproduces by laying eggs, not by giving birth. June, July and August are the breeding seasons and they can lay up to one million eggs.


How to Fish Tuna?

Tuna can be caught with fixed hooks by attaching false baits made of feathers or plant fibers to special hooks, or live sardines. This type of fishing is only done with tuna boats about 20-25 meters long. The engines of these boats are powerful and capable of going quite fast. These boats also have live sardine ponds and cold storage for use as bait. Amateur fishermen usually sit on the swivel seat on the back deck of their engines and fish these powerful fish as a sport with reel fishing rods. Most of the time, other sea creatures get caught in the nets thrown into the sea for tuna fish and die for no reason. Unfortunately, this situation may lead to the deterioration of the delicate balance in the seas.


Where Does Tuna Live?

Although some tuna varieties prefer tropical and subtropical waters, they generally live in temperate waters. Tuna lifespan can reach around 40 to 50 years. Tuna, a migratory fish species, usually lives in deep waters. The longest known tuna migration has been recorded between the USA and Japan. From time to time, tuna is also found in the Mediterranean.

Is Tuna Fish Endangered?

Tuna fish are in danger of extinction due to overfishing. The best-known species are yellowfin tuna, southern bluefin tuna, striped tuna, longwing tuna, and bigeye tuna. Bigeye tuna and yellowfin tuna species, which are the most caught and consumed today, are at risk. Southern bluefin tuna, a species whose popularity has been negatively affected in recent years, is more likely to become extinct due to overfishing. This situation has mobilized dozens of non-governmental organizations today.
